I often find myself asking indie musicians, ‘Cats or Dogs?’ This week it’s all about the dogs!! I hope you all enjoy this interview I much as I did.0

Introduce yourself
We’re Phil Cook & the Fall Dogs — four lifers from Southwestern Ontario with guitars older than some of our fans and amps that might actually be haunted. We don’t make polite rock; we make it loud, sweaty, and alive. Think dive-bar sermon meets garage revival — a little bit of grit, a little bit of glory, and a whole lot of volume.
Favorite songs/artists
We’ll never say no to a dose of Neil Young distortion, a Tom Petty chorus, or the raw nerve of Elvis Costello. Toss in a bit of Kinks swagger and some Bowie precision and you’re getting warm. Basically, if it sounds like it could blow a fuse, we’re into it.
Dream collaboration
We’d love to lock ourselves in a studio with Joey Santiago or Jack White and see who comes out with the most busted guitar strings. Or maybe let Hal Blaine hit the drums while we hold onto our beers and pray for mercy.
Music/artists you were influenced by growing up
Our DNA is spliced with Indie / Alt rock, garage and basement punk shows. The Ramones taught us how to riff, Lou Reed taught us how to mean it, and Iggy Pop taught us how to sweat through every song like it’s your last night on Earth.
Best bit of advice
Play like nobody’s watching — but also like your rent depends on it. And never trust anyone who says “the sound guy’s got it handled.”
Best gig
There was a night in some half-forgotten Ontario bar — sticky floors, busted lights, crowd pressed up against the monitors. We hit the first chord and the place erupted like the fire code didn’t exist. No stage, no barrier, just noise and heart. That’s the one.
Favourite food
Poutine after midnight. Because nothing says “Canadian rock band” like gravy and regret.
Cats or dogs
Dogs, obviously. Cats judge you; dogs just want to hang out at soundcheck.
Favorite films/books
Films: The Man Who Fell To Earth, Eraser Head, Vinyl — documentaries about our inner lives.
Books: anything by Charles Bukowski, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, or someone else who understands the beautiful insanity of loving music too much.
Any other hobbies apart from music
Fixing old gear, breaking new gear, collecting vinyl, driving fast and taking chances.
Any extra information you'd like our readers to know
We’re not here to reinvent rock ‘n’ roll — just to remind you it’s still alive, unwashed, and ready to howl. If you’ve ever turned up a song to drown out the noise of the world, you’re one of us.
